Apr. 7: Bud and Burgers in Tupelo

Mitchell Distributing and the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association are partnering together to bring Bud and Burgers back to downtown on Friday, April 7th. The competition allows for home cooks, restaurants, businesses, or organizations to assemble teams to compete for prizes for the best burger.

The 2nd Annual Tupelo Bud & Burgers Competition will be held April 7, 2017, from 6 to 10 p.m., on Broadway Street in Downtown Tupelo.

“We’re really excited to bring this event back to downtown Tupelo,” said Anna Grace Tanner, communications manager for Mitchell Companies. “We decided to host this event in Tupelo last year after a successful competition in our Meridian market. We’ve enjoyed partnering with the Downtown Association to make this event even more successful this year to ensure it’ll be a staple in Tupelo every spring.”

To enter Bud and Burgers, the team registration fee is $25 prior to March 24. After March 24, the registration fee will increase to $50 if space is available. Teams can register and submit their forms to the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association or mail them to P.O. Box 468, Tupelo, Mississippi, 38804. Teams can also register online at https://mitchelldistributing.formstack.com/forms/tupelo_bud_burgers

Teams will be comprised of four people, with each team receiving four T-shirts and 16 drink tickets. Each team will be provided a 10x10 space for a tent with extra room provided for a grill and are allowed to set up on the day of the event at 1 p.m., but must be finished by 3 p.m.

Teams are encouraged to prepare a minimum of 36 burgers, one to be judged and the rest to be quartered for sampling. The public will begin sampling at 6 p.m.

Due to ABC regulation, no additional beverages are allowed on site. The event’s sponsor, Mitchell Distributing, will provide beverages available for purchase.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Professional (Restaurant Category) and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awarded to Backyard Teams, the People’s Choice (Favorite burger by vote of attendees) and Best of Show (Best Theme Decorations by vote of attendees). Blind judging will be based on flavor and presentation of the burger.
