Woodville, Mississippi

Woodville, Mississippi

Mississippi Main Street Association has selected Woodville as the Main Street feature community for the month of April. Since becoming a Main Street community in 2004, the town of Woodville has seen much progress and growth. 2008 has already been a very busy year for Woodville. The Woodville Main Street Board of Directors hired Arnett Muldrow & Associates to conduct a marketing, branding and logo plan for the town of 2,000. Woodville was named a Certified Cultural Corners designation by Governor Haley Barbour and the Tourism Division of the Mississippi Development Authority. Woodville will also host the first Woodville Deer & Wildlife Festival in October. Woodville Mayor Gary D’Aquila has personally seen the progress made in the community since becoming a Main Street town.

“Woodville’s Main Street designation has spawned ribbon cuttings of fourteen new mom-and-pop businesses in the past two and a half years, including three antique malls that are open seven days a week. Sales tax revenues are steadily increasing in this town that originated in 1811. Our downtown is seeing the results of Main Street’s Façade Grant Program. Two prominent buildings are currently being renovated.

Woodville is small town America; everybody knows everybody else. People live in our one-square-mile historic town and walk to businesses, churches, doctors, museums, the courthouse and the post office. Where else can you walk to take care of all your business and then leave work and sit on a deer stand in 15 minutes? Or hike the Clark Creek Natural Area in 20 minutes? Or watch bald eagles at Lake Mary in 25 minutes? Or fish on the Mississippi River in 30 minutes?

Our Main Street Board and volunteers have rehabilitated the historic live oak trees around the downtown courthouse, expanded our community Christmas celebration and held small business marketing seminars. Main Street is working on a marketing and branding plan, a Tourism Center on Highway 61, a Blues Trail Marker and a Deer & Wildlife Festival held in October 2008. We’re just an hour from the Baton Rouge airport and 30 minutes from Natchez on Highway 61, the Blues Highway and a Scenic Byway. Come see us!”
