Our Mississippi Main Street delegation (Kelle Barfield, MMSA Board President; Jeannie Zieren, MMSA Executive Director; Deanna Knight, Saltillo Main Street; Olivia Randle, Main Street Pascagoula; and Jordan Coopwood, Ten One Strategies) had a successful week in our nation’s capital for Main Street America Hill Day on Feb. 10-11. Mississippi was one of 28 states across the country represented at Main Street America Hill Day. We were able to discuss Main Street successes and priorities with Senator Hyde-Smith, Senator Wicker, Representative Ezell, Representative Guest, and Representative Kelly. We encouraged legislative support of the Capacity Building for Business Districts Pilot Program Act (H.R. 3585) that would amend the Economic Development Administration's Research and National Technical Assistance Program as well as the Historic Tax Credit Growth and Opportunity Act (H.R. 2941/S. 1459) that will create more opportunities for housing and economic development in Main Street communities. We also informed our congressmen of the impactful work being done on the local level in each of Mississippi's congressional districts. Local directors Deanna Knight from Saltillo and Olivia Randle from Pascagoula were with us to emphasize local relationships and programs of work. Rep. Mike Ezell (MS-04) received the inaugural Main Street Policy Impact Award on behalf of MSA and MMSA. Read the press release. Next up is Main Street Day under our own dome in Jackson, so please join us at the Mississippi State Capitol on March 4, with our exhibit beginning at 8:30 a.m. followed by our press conference at 10:30 a.m. in the second floor rotunda. We are inviting every legislator to attend our Main Street Day luncheon at the Capital Club at 11:30 a.m. Please reach out personally and invite your legislators to sit with you! Main Street members and legislators are guests of MMSA, and additional guests are $40 per person. Please RSVP here by Feb. 25. We also have a room block at Old Capitol Inn if you want to come in the day before. Our Group Number is MMS2026. Book here. Together, we are Main Street Strong!
