Leadership Plaza Revitalization, Columbus, ARPA

Revitalize Leadership Plaza to make it safer and more visually welcoming for use in public events.

For over 35 years, Leadership Plaza, in the heart of downtown Columbus and used for community events, photo ops, and leisure, sat with nothing more than routine maintenance.  Using ARPA funding from the state of Mississippi to reinvent this public space, a more welcoming atmosphere attracts tourists to events, concerts, promotions, and has boosted the local economy and reinvigorated our community. 

A beautiful pavilion invites play, photos, entertainment, and a fabulous opportunity for the Main Street Design Committee to keep the plaza looking festive and attractive at all times.  New sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting surrounding the property provide a greater feeling of safety, and benches offer a place for relaxation and observation of downtown Columbus activity.  

Downtown has seen an increase in foot traffic around the Plaza and, in turn, an upswing in sales.  This quality-of-life enhancement in the heart of downtown Columbus has been a welcomed project.
