About Corinth

The City of Corinth is located at the junction of two railroads and was a strategic site during the American Civil War. Corinth is a city in and the county seat of Alcorn County, Mississippi. It lies on the state line with Tennessee. The City is well known for the origination of the "slugburger," a hamburger recipe brought from Chicago to Corinth in 1917 that included hamburger meat ground with potato flakes and flour and later soy grits. According to town legend, the term "slugburger" comes from the slang term for a metal disk the size of a nickel that would work in vending machines. Since 1988, Main Street Corinth hosts the annual Slugburger Festival every July that includes the World Slugburger Eating Championship.
